The need

To build a digital solution for businesses and citizens

The business community in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) needed a user-friendly, digital solution that would enable companies, tradespeople and citizens to apply for administrative services quickly and efficiently online. In particular, bureaucratic hurdles were to be removed and communication between users and the relevant authorities was to be facilitated without media discontinuity.

Our approach

A platform build around the “once-only principle”

The Wirtschafts-Service-Portal.NRW, co-developed by publicplan GmbH, offers a central platform for all relevant administrative procedures in NRW. The portal enables users to apply for administrative services, such as business start-ups or business registrations, easily and in just a few steps. The integrated AI-based assistants support users in selecting the right forms and offer a flexible, user-friendly interface that responds to users’ needs.

By implementing the “once-only principle”, users are relieved of repetitive data entry and can use data already entered for multiple applications. This saves time and significantly reduces effort. The continuous user feedback process and regular technical adjustments ensure that the portal always meets users’ needs.

The result

A useful portal for North Rhine-Westphalia citizens

The Wirtschafts-Service-Portal.NRW was awarded first place in two categories of the 20th eGovernment competition. Not only did it successfully drive forward the digitalization of administrative processes in NRW but, it also strengthened users’ trust in digital administration and enabled seamless, paperless communication between the authorities and the business community.
